Aktiv Kapital is a debt recovery company.
They buy debt that is in arrears from finance companies, telecommunications suppliers and other companies that you may have fallen behind on your repayments to. Despite them buying the debt for much less than you owe, they will usually chase you for the full amount of the debt.
Many debt recovery companies have been accused of trying to force customers to pay more than they can afford each month. This breaks rules set out by The Office of Fair Trading.

I keep receiving letters from these people which are in a name very similar to mine but not me. Initially I called them to tell them of their error and that I don't owe the 10K they claim. However, they started asking me previous addresses and date of birth which I was not prepared to discuss with someone who I had no dealings with. So the letters persist. They original had claimed my details were obtained from public records and they presumed it to be me (so they guessed on a similar name). More recent ones are now saying they will go away if I pay 3K - which even makes it sound unlikely this debt they allege ever existed. Other than my mortgage I owe no one and only use my credit card for security on online purchases - so its rather annoying to be stuck with someone else's debt letters and then be ignored when calling to tell them their error.
They bought a debt of mine from HSBC which was £3000 and somehow its at £9000. I had managed to get it down to £8000 but at christmas when my payment bounced every bit of what I had paid went out the window and they put ALL the money back onto the account plus some taking it up to £10,000. This will never go away and is on my credit record and im stuck with it for at least 40 years now.
